The best gay bars in the Middle East

This list will hopefully grow one day, but for now these are the gay bars you can visit in the Middle East

When you think of the Middle East, gay bars and clubs may be the last thing that springs to mind. Aside from Israel, often referred to as “the Manhattan of the Middle East”, gay pride events are non-existent in this region.

There are gay people in the Middle East, though. In some parts of the Middle East, secretive gay culture thrives behind closed doors. In some Middle Eastern cities, you will even find gay bars and clubs. There aren’t many, but we’ve gathered together the gay venues you can visit. Public displays of affection are not advised for your own safety: unless you’re at Tel Aviv Pride. We hope this list of bars will be longer one day.

The Middle East was considered to be far "gayer" than the West for much of the 19th century, so there's reason the pendulum shouldn't swing again.

    POSH - Beirut

POSH is the largest gay club in the Arab world, featuring cutting-edge lighting and sound systems. It's a rare safe space for gay people in the Middle East. Comparable to top clubs in cities like London or New York, POSH is at the heart of Beirut’s gay club scene. For more insight, you can explore its role in the rise of Beirut’s LGBTQ+ nightlife in our Gay Rights in Lebanon article.

The club is often bustling, especially on Saturdays. POSH has become a significant milestone for the LGBTQ+ community in Lebanon, offering a space to enjoy a mix of pop, electro, and Arabic music. Be mindful of the “no kissing policy” enforced at the venue—save the intimate moments for a more private setting.
